Lots of food
Dogs tend to eat a lot. Depending on their size, dogs eat more or less food; there are some dogs that eat 2 times a day and those that eat 7 times a day. Get informed before you get a puppy, so that you can provide enough of it. Keep in mind that there are hundreds of types of food and your dog might like some more than other. This is the part where you’ll have to experiment until you have found the food which they love the most. Good luck with that.
Everything a dog needs
There are plenty of pet accessories which you will have to buy. Start with food and water bowls, collar, leash, brush and other accessories which are essential for nurturing a puppy. These are all items that might cost less than $15-20, but when combined, the price might really affect your wallet. Who said that owning a puppy will be cheap?
Vitamins and supplements
As a puppy, your dog will require a lot of attention and nourishment. We’re talking special food for about 6 to 7 months, after which you’ll be able to switch to casual dog food. In that first period, they’ll have to consume vitamins and supplements on a daily basis. In order to get transform your puppy into a beautiful, strong and intelligent dog, you have to feed it right. Not only that, but you will have to play with them, train them to listen to your commands and teach it the rules of your home. Never forget that you’re the king of your castle, and that your dog is but a guardian.
During their early period of life, your puppy will start to grow teeth. They’ll require something to chew on and if you don’t provide them with appropriate toys, I’m afraid that they’ll chew on whatever they find. This could be your brand new shoes, wallet, chairs and pretty much anything. To avoid such incidents, get them a chewing toy. These are pretty inexpensive and can be bought in any local pet store.
A place to sleep
As everyone else, dogs require a place to sleep on. When they’re adorable little puppies, they can sleep in a card box or on a simple pillow. As they start growing up, they’ll require some sort of their own bed. Now, you can create one or buy one, the choice is yours. If you’re among those loving and caring owners who love sleeping with their pets, feel free to do it even though it’s not recommended to bring an animal into your sleeping area.
Once you get all of these basic items and accessories, you will be fully set to nurture and tend your puppy. Treat your dog as you would treat a source of eternal happiness for they deserve no less. They will give you their all, so make sure you’re a kind and loving owner.
